The Department of Law at World University of Bangladesh (WUB) has
achieved a notable milestone in practical legal education as both its
participating teams, Team 317 and Team 318, secured positions among the Top 16
teams at the 3rd
UMSAILS–UAP Inter-University Moot Court Competition 2026.
Organized by the Department of Law and Human Rights at the
University of Asia Pacific (UAP), in collaboration with the UNESCO Madanjeet
Singh South Asian Institute of Advanced Legal and Human Rights Studies
(UMSAILS), the competition brought together 29 teams from 24 public and private
universities across Bangladesh. The inauguration ceremony, held on October 07,
2026, was graced by Mr. Bobby Hajjaj, Hon’ble State Minister
for Primary and Mass Education, Government of the People’s Republic of
Bangladesh, as the Chief Guest.
Both WUB teams demonstrated strong legal research, analytical
reasoning, and written advocacy skills, earning their places among the Top 16
teams based on the evaluation of their written arguments, known as memorials.
They further showcased their advocacy skills during the preliminary oral
argument rounds, where both teams secured victories in their respective defence
cases against the prosecution teams.
Team 317 comprised Momotaz Akter Mghla, Aryan Khan Jidan, and
Abrarul Anwar Alif, under the guidance of Jubaida Sakin, Lecturer, Department
of Law. Team 318 consisted of Sayma Sultana, Md. Anamul Hoque Shihab, and Md.
Nimur Rahman Siam, coached by Summayya Rahman, Lecturer, Department of Law.
The achievement is particularly significant as the World
University of Bangladesh Moot Court Society (WUB-MCS) was established in 2026
under the Department of Law. The success of both teams reflects the dedication
of the students, the guidance of their coaches, and the Society’s emerging role
in promoting practical legal education through legal research, memorial
drafting, oral advocacy, and the application of legal principles.
WUB-MCS contributes to the United Nations Sustainable Development
Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4: Quality Education, through practical skills
development, and SDG 16: Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions, by promoting
legal advocacy and justice-oriented learning.
Building on this achievement, continued institutional support for
moot court activities, including dedicated practice facilities, access to legal
research resources, and financial assistance for competition participation,
would help strengthen the Society’s capacity and prepare students for future
national and international competitions.
The performance of Teams 317 and 318 marks a promising beginning
for the newly established WUB-MCS and reinforces World University of
Bangladesh’s commitment to experiential learning, professional skills
development, and excellence in legal education.
