The
Department of Tourism and Hospitality Management (THM) of World University of
Bangladesh successfully organized the “THM Inter-Batch Cricket 2026: Tourism
& Hospitality Heroes Championship” on 11–12 May 2026 under the inspiring
theme, “Hospitality in Heart, Cricket in Soul.” Organized by the WUB THM
Club, the two-day tournament brought together students from different batches
in a vibrant celebration of sportsmanship, teamwork, and unity.
Prior
to the tournament, a trophy unveiling ceremony and official draw session were
held at the university premises in the presence of distinguished guests.
Professor Zaki Imam, Registrar of WUB, attended the ceremony as the Chief
Guest, while A.N.M. Ahsan Thouhid, Joint Registrar; Md. Kamrul Hossain, Joint
Registrar; and Susankar Kumar Roy, Senior Assistant Registrar, were present as
Special Guests.
The
championship was officially inaugurated by Professor M. Moqbul Hossain,
Controller of Examinations of WUB, who encouraged students to maintain a
healthy balance between academic excellence and extracurricular engagement. A
total of ten teams from various THM batches participated in the tournament,
including two dedicated female teams, reflecting the department’s commitment to
inclusivity and student engagement.
The
exciting final match saw Batch 43A (3rd Semester) emerge as champions, while
Batch 44A (2nd Semester) secured the runners-up position after a spirited
performance. The event created an enthusiastic atmosphere across the campus,
with students cheering for their teams and celebrating the spirit of healthy
competition.
The
closing and prize-giving ceremony was graced by Pro Vice-Chancellor Professor
Dr. M. Nurul Islam as the Chief Guest. In his remarks, he highlighted the
importance of sports in developing leadership, discipline, teamwork, and
professionalism among future hospitality leaders.
The
program was presided over by Professor Muhammad Nasimul Azim, Head and Director
of the Department of THM. The event was coordinated by Md. Abdul Latif Mahmud,
Assistant Professor, Academic Coordinator, and THM Club Moderator, with the
active support of faculty members including Pulak Sarker, Sara Murtaza, Md.
Morsalin, and Ummey Honey Nidhi.
This
successful championship reflected WUB’s continued commitment to holistic
education by encouraging both academic excellence and extracurricular
participation among students.
